Viides askel

Janne Reinikainen's directorial interpretation brings David Ireland's recent hit play to Taivassali Stage. The two-person comedy stars Paavo Kinnunen and Juho Milonoff.

Luka (Paavo Kinnunen) and Jarmo (Juho Milonoff) are recovering alcoholics who met at an AA meeting. Jarmo is an older man who becomes the sponsor of the newly sober Luka, with the task of guiding the less experienced Luka on the path to sobriety.

David Ireland's Viides askel (The Fifth Step) is a play to which nothing human is alien. It tells of loneliness and despair, addiction and faith, fathers and sons, power and sex, self-deception, guilt, and shame. At its core are the role and power position of men, blind spots that unconsciously influence everything in the background. Ireland's masterfully written dialogue between men tests both the funny bone and the boundaries of propriety.
