Location and Getting Here

The Finnish National Theatre's Main Stage can be accessed via the theatre's main entrance on the Railway Square side of the building. The street address is Vilhonkatu 11. Step-free access to the wheelchair spaces on the first balcony is available via Itäinen Teatterikuja 2a.

If you require a wheelchair space or step-free access, please book your tickets through the Finnish National Theatre Box Office. Our customer service team will be happy to help you choose the most suitable seats for your visit.

Please note that vehicle drop-off directly outside the theatre's main entrance is not possible due to the theatre's location in a busy city-centre area.

The Main Stage auditorium has two ticket price categories. The higher-priced category includes the stalls, the first four rows of the first balcony and the side boxes. The lower-priced category includes the back row of the first balcony, where some seats may have restricted views and more limited legroom, as well as the second balcony.

Accessibility

The Main Stage is not fully step-free throughout.

There are two wheelchair spaces on the first balcony. Lift access is available to the aisle seats in rows 4 and 5 of the first balcony via the tower entrance on Itäinen Teatterikuja (address: Itäinen Teatterikuja 2a).

The Itäinen Teatterikuja entrance provides access to the lift serving the Main Stage. The entrance door is normally closed, but there is an intercom beside the door which connects directly to our staff. Please note that the area outside the entrance is cobbled and there is an approximately 4 cm threshold at the doorway.

If you require a wheelchair space or accessible access suitable for mobility aid users, we recommend booking your tickets through the Finnish National Theatre Box Office. Our customer service team can help you select the most suitable seats for your needs.

The Main Stage auditorium is equipped with a hearing loop system for audience members who use hearing aids.

Location and getting here

The Small Stage is located on the Kaisaniemi Park side of the theatre at Bergbominkuja 2.

Designed by architects Heikki and Kaija Siren, the Small Stage opened in 1954. The entrance foyer and the first-floor foyer reflect the understated modernist architecture of their time. During the extensive refurbishment completed in 2023, the interior was carefully restored to more closely reflect its original appearance, while the building's technical infrastructure was completely modernised behind the scenes.

The entrance foyer features a bust of Rakel and Antti Wihuri, patrons of the Small Stage. Large windows in the first-floor foyer fill the space with natural light and offer views over Kaisaniemi Park.

The first-floor foyer includes an interval refreshment counter, a wine bar and a lounge area overlooking the park. Audience members enter the auditorium via the first-floor foyer.

The Small Stage auditorium reflects Heikki Siren's vision of a democratic auditorium, with excellent sightlines to the stage from every seat.

Location

Lavaklubi is located on the Railway Square side of the theatre at Läntinen Teatterikuja 1A.

The entrance to Lavaklubi is situated on the left-hand side of the theatre when viewed from Railway Square, at the corner of Vilhonkatu and Läntinen Teatterikuja.

Step-free access to Lavaklubi is available via Itäinen Teatterikuja 2A.

About the Venue

Lavaklubi is an intimate and atmospheric venue for performances, concerts and events.

At the centre of the space is a small stage measuring approximately 2 × 5 metres, while a long bar runs along the rear wall. Audience seating consists of small table arrangements that create a relaxed setting for both conversation and enjoying performances.

Lavaklubi has a capacity of 80 guests.

Accessibility

Lavaklubi is not fully step-free throughout.

The main entrance to Lavaklubi is reached via seven stone steps, followed by a further 14 steps down into the venue itself. An accessible toilet is located within the venue near the entrance.

Step-free access is available via the tower entrance on Itäinen Teatterikuja (address: Itäinen Teatterikuja 2A), from where visitors can use a lift to reach the venue. The entrance door is normally closed, but there is an intercom beside the door which connects directly to our staff.

Please note that the area outside the entrance is cobbled and there is an approximately 4 cm threshold at the doorway.

Private Events

Lavaklubi is available for private hire.

Please note that the venue is not available for private events on evenings when performances are taking place on the Main Stage.

Taivassali is the Finnish National Theatre's newest performance space, created within the former carpentry workshop of the theatre's set construction department.

Location

Taivassali is located on the Kaisaniemi Park side of the theatre at Bergbominkuja 2. Access is via the entrances to the Small Stage.

Seating

The seating configuration in Taivassali is adapted to suit each production. Please check the seating plan on the individual production page.

Taivassali has a maximum capacity of 150 seats.

Following the theatre's extensive refurbishment, the former paint shop of the Finnish National Theatre's set construction department has been given a new lease of life as both a rehearsal space and performance venue.

Location

Maalaamosali is located on the Kaisaniemi Park side of the theatre at Bergbominkuja 2. Access is via the entrances to the Small Stage.

Seating

The seating configuration in Maalaamosali varies according to the requirements of each production. Please check the seating plan on the individual production page.

Maalaamosali typically accommodates 60–80 unreserved seats.
