Careers at the Finnish National Theatre

The Finnish National Theatre employs nearly 170 permanent staff members, and during the theatre season we also work with approximately 100 visiting artists and hourly employees. As a working environment, the Finnish National Theatre is highly inspiring, and every member of staff contributes through their work to creating theatre that is artistically ambitious and socially impactful. Our shared values are artistry, equality and open dialogue, and in terms of responsibility we make steady progress through both large and small steps.

From time to time, we recruit professionals from various fields for open positions. Vacancies are advertised separately as needed, for example on our social media channels, recruitment websites and on this page.

You can subscribe to a separate mailing list below, where we announce open positions.

Our theatre is closed during the summer season, so we do not offer summer jobs.

Young people and students

For internships and thesis projects, we primarily collaborate directly with educational institutions. Other possible internship opportunities are announced separately. We receive a large number of open internship applications, so we hope you will not be discouraged if we are unable to respond to your message. If you already have a clearly defined topic for a thesis related to theatre and its operations, you may contact the head of the relevant department directly.

Nuorten Kansallisteatteri (Finnish National Youth Theatre) is a group of young theatre-makers maintained by the Finnish National Theatre, founded in 2019. It is intended for young people aged 14–24 who are interested in theatre. The group is currently full. For information about waiting list places, please contact the responsible producer, Roosa Vaverka (roosa.vaverka@kansallisteatteri.fi).

TET (work experience placements for school pupils) can be enquired about by sending an application to the producer of the Communities and Participation department, Jeroen Sebrechts (jeroen.sebrechts@kansallisteatteri.fi). TET at the Finnish National Theatre includes getting to know the theatre’s various departments as well as one evening TET shift (attending a performance). We only accept TET trainees for one week at a time and only during certain weeks. TET placements for spring 2026 are already fully booked. These placements are usually filled several months in advance, so we recommend enquiring well ahead of time.
