The Finnish National Theatre include historic spaces, and accessibility varies between stages. We aim to provide clear information to help you plan your visit.
Physical Accessibility
Wheelchair spaces
If you require a wheelchair spaces or step-free access, we recommend booking your ticket through the Finnish National Theatre box office. Our customer service staff will be happy to help you choose the most suitable seating.
On the Main Stage, there are two wheelchair spaces located in the first balcony. Seats in rows 4–5 of the first balcony can be accessed via lift from the entrance in the tower on the Itäinen Teatterikuja side (exact address: Itäinen Teatterikuja 2 a).
This entrance provides access to the lift serving the Main Stage. The door is not kept open, but there is an entry phone by the door which allows you to contact a member of staff. Please note that the area outside the entrance is cobbled, and there is a threshold of approximately 4 cm.
On the Small Stage, two wheelchair spaces are located at the left end of row 14. The lift provides access only to the left-hand side of the auditorium.
In Taivassali Stage and Maalaamo Studio, wheelchair spaces are located near the auditorium entrance.
You can find more detailed information about each stage on their respective pages.
Tickets for assistants accompanying wheelchair users are free of charge. We recommend bringing your own assistant, as our premises — particularly on the Main Stage — are not fully step-free. Our ushers are unfortunately not able to provide personal assistance alongside their primary duties.
As wheelchair spaces are limited, we kindly ask that tickets are reserved by phone no later than the day before the performance via the Finnish National Theatre box office (tel. +358 10 733 1331), so that we can provide the best possible service.
Induction loops
Induction loop systems are available on the Main Stage in the stalls, rows 7–12 and 16–17.
On the Small Stage, the induction loop system works throughout the auditorium.
There are no induction loop systems in Taivassali Stage or Maalaamo Studio.
Tickets for assistants are free of charge. Reservations can be made through the Finnish National Theatre box office.
Accessible toilets
An accessible toilet is available on the Main Stage at the Lavaklubi level (lift access via the tower on the Itäinen Teatterikuja side).
On the Small Stage, the accessible toilet is located near Café Willensauna.
For Maalaamo Studio and Taivassali Stage, accessible toilets are located in the shared foyer area of the stages.

Safer Space Guidelines at the Finnish National Theatre
At the Finnish National Theatre, our values include equality, dialogue and artistic excellence.
Our safer space guidelines aim to support a more inclusive and respectful environment for both audiences and staff.
- Discrimination, racism, harassment, or physical or psychological harm are not accepted. We all share responsibility for creating a safe and welcoming space through our actions.
- We recognise that everyone brings their own perspectives and assumptions. We encourage awareness of these and respect the diversity and individuality of others.
- Please inform a member of staff if you experience or witness inappropriate behaviour. We will address situations to the best of our ability.
- We welcome feedback at saavutettavuus@kansallisteatteri.fi . Messages are handled confidentially and with care.
- We aim to ensure that our spaces are as accessible and inclusive as possible, so that everyone can take part in our performances and events on equal terms.
- We also strive to offer content that is accessible in geographical, social and financial terms.
- We aim to communicate clearly and accessibly.
- We always ask for permission from those we photograph or record in closed events. At public events, we follow good practice in photography.
- We are committed to these principles and will continue to develop them as needed. Creating a safe space is a shared responsibility.
