In the Finnish National Theatre's Lähettiläät | Ambassadors project, young people from diverse backgrounds create performance. The young people work in collaboration with experienced artists. Alongside performances, in 2026 the project will create public discussions to amplify the voices and concerns of young people.
Lähettiläät | Ambassadors project creates opportunities for self-expression, work experience in artistic practices, and skills to progress to educational institutions in the field. Through this project, the young people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds inhabit the National Theatre. We are committed to building a future Finland free from racism together. Young people can be leaders in this.
In the first phase of the project, low-threshold theater and music workshops were organized for young people with immigrant backgrounds. In the second phase, young people interested in performing were invited into the National Youth Theatre.
The first production created in the context of Lähettiläät | Ambassadors project was My Mind is a Beast with the premier in the National Theatre’s Omapohja stage in November 2025.
The project’s second production, if you ask us, will premiere in October 2026.
The project is led by the National Theatre's Communities and Engagement Department and has a multidisciplinary steering group, which includes representatives from Migri, the Uusimaa Economic Development Centre, and participating group homes.
