The Finnish National Theatre has been invited to join the mitos21 network of European theatres.

Founded in 2008, mitos21 aims to promote collaboration among theatre professionals from different countries and organizes artistic events where artists and theatre professionals can meet, share ideas, and critically reflect on the significance of theatre in contemporary society. The word "mitos" in the organization's name refers to Ariadne's thread from Greek mythology, which helps one find a way out of a labyrinth; the number "21" signifies our current century.

Mitos21 is a non-profit organization. Representatives of the network visited the National Theatre's directors and dramaturges and attended a performance of "The Year of the Hare" As a result of these meetings, the National Theatre's director Kristian Smeds personally received the invitation in Stockholm on March 30th, and the National Theatre's dramaturge-director Minna Leino has been invited to a dramaturgy meeting at the National Theatre in London in May.

"It is a great honor to be invited to join the family of Europe's top theatres," commented the National Theatre's General Director Mika Myllyaho. "This strengthens our confidence that the quality of our repertoire is high on a European scale and paves the way for the future of artistic theatre both at the National Theatre and throughout Finland," Myllyaho rejoices.

The network's theatres include, among others, the Berliner Ensemble, Vienna's Burgtheater, Paris's Odéon, London's National Theatre, and Stockholm's Dramaten.
